Climatologist Prof. Georgi Rachev expects favorable spring weather across Bulgaria this weekend, describing the upcoming conditions as ideal for the end of April and the beginning of May.
Speaking on bTV, he said Saturday and Sunday would bring pleasant temperatures and stable conditions. ?The weather will be perfect on Saturday and Sunday,? Rachev stated, adding that warmer air is settling not only over Bulgaria, but across most of Europe.
He commented with irony on earlier foreign forecasts suggesting snowfall in the European lowlands between May 1 and May 3. ?There was a forecast from abroad that snow would fall in the lowlands of Europe, but they made a mistake in the calculations,? he said humorously.
According to him, there is currently no source of serious cold air that could lead to such a sharp drop in temperatures. ?There is nowhere for cold to come from,? he explained.
In Sofia, daytime temperatures by the end of the week are expected to reach around 20 degrees Celsius. However, starting Thursday, a period of three to four days with rainfall and slightly cooler weather is expected, with maximum temperatures dropping to around 14 to 15 degrees.
Even so, Rachev stressed that no significant cold wave is on the horizon and snowfall is out of the question.
The beginning of May is also expected to remain relatively warm, although with more frequent rain. In Southern Bulgaria, temperatures this Sunday may rise to as much as 25 degrees.
Looking ahead to St. George's Day, he forecast typical spring conditions. ?For St. George's Day, it should be warm, sunny, and with light rain. This is perfect weather,? Prof. Rachev said.
