CRETE, 24th April, 2026 (WAM) -- A significant earthquake measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale struck the sea region off the coast of eastern Crete, Greece.
The tremor, which occurred at approximately 6:18 a.m. local time, was centred roughly 11-28 kilometres (6.8 miles to 17.3 miles) southeast of Ierapetra.
Due to its shallow depth, the earthquake was widely felt across the island, particularly in the Lasithi and Heraklion regions.
