Bulgaria Warms Up After Frosty Morning, Temperatures Climb to 21C

A gradual warming trend is expected to begin on Monday across Bulgaria, although the day will still start with notably low temperatures and localized frost. Weather conditions will vary across the country, with clearer skies dominating the west, while central and eastern regions will see more cloud cover and a slight chance of brief, light rain. Winds will come from the northwest, remaining light to moderate overall, but strengthening in the east where northern gusts may become more noticeable. Authorities have issued a yellow code warning for cold morning conditions in 14 districts, mainly in western and northeastern areas.

Temperatures early in the day will be close to freezing, ranging between 0C and 5C, and dropping below zero in higher western fields to around minus 2C to minus 3C. In Sofia, the morning temperature will hover around minus 1C. As the day progresses, conditions will improve, with daytime highs reaching between 16C and 21C across most regions. Northwestern Bulgaria is expected to be slightly warmer, with values climbing to 21C-24C, while the capital will see around 17C.

Mountain areas will enjoy mostly sunny weather, though clouds are expected to build around midday, especially over central and eastern ranges. Only isolated light rain is forecast, with snowfall possible above 2000 meters. Winds at higher elevations will be moderate to strong from the north-northeast. Temperatures will remain lower, reaching about 10C at 1200 meters and around 3C at 2000 meters.

Along the Black Sea coast, skies will stay largely overcast but without significant rainfall. Winds will shift from northwest to east-northeast later in the day, remaining generally light to moderate. Daytime temperatures will be slightly cooler, between 14C and 17C. Sea water temperatures are measured at 12C-13C, with wave activity at around 3 to 4 on the Beaufort scale.

Across the Balkans, the overall picture is one of gradual warming under mostly sunny skies, although eastern areas may still see increased cloudiness and occasional light showers. Despite the rise in temperatures, southern parts of the region will remain cooler than usual for early May. Forecast highs in major cities include ?17C in Sofia, 16C in Istanbul, 19C in Thessaloniki, 20C in Athens, 21C in Bucharest, 23C in Skopje, and 26C in Belgrade.?
