A yellow code warning has been issued for frost conditions on Tuesday, April 28, covering parts of northeastern and southwestern Bulgaria, according to the weather forecast.
The affected areas include Varna, Dobrich, Targovishte, Razgrad, Silistra and Shumen in the northeast, as well as Blagoevgrad, Kyustendil, Pernik and Sofia region in the southwest.
In the morning hours, minimum temperatures in these regions are expected to drop to around 2 degrees, increasing the risk of frost formation.
Despite the cold start, the day will be mostly sunny across the country. In the afternoon, however, cumulus and rain clouds are expected to develop over southwestern Bulgaria. Short-lived rain showers accompanied by thunder are likely in some areas, mainly in mountainous regions.
Winds will remain weak from the north, while in eastern Bulgaria they will come from the east-southeast. Daytime temperatures will stay relatively high, ranging between 20 and 25 degrees, with Sofia expected to reach around 21 degrees.
The weather pattern will change midweek. On Wednesday and Thursday, cloud cover will increase and showers with thunderstorms are forecast. Northeastern winds will strengthen, bringing in colder air and leading to a noticeable drop in daytime temperatures.
Colder conditions are expected to persist on Friday, when cloudiness will remain significant. Rainfall will be more limited and generally weaker compared to previous days.
On Saturday, variable and often considerable cloudiness will continue, with only isolated light showers expected in some places.
