PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenia could become part of energy projects involving Azerbaijan and Turkey, Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar has said.
"Can Armenia be part of this process? Of course it can. We support normalization, and by normalization we also mean the normalization of economic relations. We can also develop cooperation in the energy sector. There may be good opportunities here," he said, as cited by 1news.az .
He expressed hope that regional cooperation would evolve in a way that benefits all sides.
The minister also commented on prospects for a new agreement envisaging the supply of 33 billion cubic meters of natural gas from Azerbaijan.
"Azerbaijan remains one of Turkey's main energy partners, and the signed agreement will ensure gas supplies over the next 15 years and beyond 2030," he noted.
Bayraktar stressed that bilateral cooperation is not limited to the gas sector. He recalled the "green corridor" project involving Azerbaijan, Georgia, Turkey and Bulgaria. The initiative envisages the export of electricity generated from renewable sources to Turkey and European countries, including from the territory of Nakhchivan.
Earlier, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said it would be appropriate for Armenia's energy system to be interconnected with those of Turkey and Azerbaijan. This, he said, would expand Armenia's export opportunities and enhance the region's overall potential.
