PanARMENIAN.Net - The U.S. Department of State has urged all American citizens to immediately leave Iran using overland routes through Armenia or Turkey, warning that air travel could be severely disrupted.
According to the advisory, U.S. citizens could face arrest simply for possessing an American passport. The embassy also noted potential internet outages, as reported by Kommersant.
"If you are unable to leave, find a secure place within your home or another safe building. Stock up on food, water, medicine, and other essentials. Avoid protests, try to remain inconspicuous, and stay alert to your surroundings," the statement read.
U.S. and Iranian officials are expected to meet in Oman on February 6 to discuss Tehran's nuclear program. The Iranian delegation will be led by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, while the U.S. side will be represented by Special Presidential Envoy Steve Witkoff.
In January, the U.S. deployed a carrier strike group from North America to the Middle East, led by the aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln and a group of destroyers. On the evening of February 4, Tehran imposed stricter conditions for the upcoming talks, narrowing the agenda and insisting the meeting take place in Oman instead of Istanbul.
