ATHENS, Nov. 1 (Xinhua) -- Two people were killed and more than a dozen injured Saturday when rival families clashed in a village on the Greek island of Crete, Greek broadcaster ERT reported.

The confrontation, linked to a long-running feud, followed a bombing at an unfinished house the previous night. A 39-year-old man and a 56-year-old woman died, and two men remain in serious condition.

More than 2,000 bullets were fired, according to police.

Hospitals are under guard as victims from both sides are treated separately, while special police units from Athens have been deployed amid fears of renewed violence.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the clash.
