Israel says Gaza's Rafah crossing will probably reopen Sunday

Gazas Rafah crossing with Egypt will probably be reopened on Sunday, Israels foreign minister said Thursday, without specifying whether the crossing would be opened for the passage of humanitarian aid or for people. Earlier, Turkey announced it had sent 81 disaster relief expertsto the Gaza Strip, some of whom will help with finding the remains of 19 hostages still unaccounted for. Yesterday's developments:

  • Planning has begun for an international force to go intoGazato stabilise security in the Palestinian enclave, two senior US advisers said on Wednesday.
  • Hamasaims to stick to its pledge to return the bodies of dead hostages in Gaza, the senior US advisors added, after Israel threatened to resume fighting because only a few had been returned.
  • Israelsaid its forces received the bodies of two more hostagefrom the Red Cross, which had been returned under a US-brokered ceasefire deal in Gaza.
  • Hamas said it handed back to Israel the remains of all the deceased hostages it can reach, and that it will need special recovery equipment to reach more bodies promised under theceasefire deal.
