Czech Center in Sofia to Remain Open After Closure Decision Reversed

The Czech Center in Bulgaria will continue operating after a reversal of an earlier decision to shut it down, the institution confirmed in an official statement. The announcement follows what it described as strong public support both in Bulgaria and in the Czech Republic.

According to the center, the director general of the Czech Centers network has withdrawn the plan to close the Sofia branch. The institution emphasized that public reaction played a decisive role in the outcome. ?The credit for this goes entirely to all of you who joined forces and supported us - both here in Bulgaria and in the Czech Republic,? it said.

Alongside the decision to keep the center open, its programming schedule has been adjusted. The venue will now host cultural events every Wednesday until June 20, ensuring continued activity through the early summer period.

The center also outlined its plans for the second half of the year, stating that after the summer break, its program will resume on September 23 and continue until the end of the year. It invited individuals and organizations to submit proposals for future events via email.

Describing the move as an expression of appreciation, the institution said it intends to maintain open access for cultural initiatives. ?The best way to express our gratitude is to open our doors to you,? the Czech Centre noted, framing the continuation of its activities as a gesture of thanks to the Bulgarian public.
