Bulgaria seizes nearly 48 kg of cocaine at border with Trkiye

SOFIA, May 18 (Xinhua) -- Bulgarian law enforcement authorities have seized 47.91 kg of cocaine worth about 5.1 million U.S. dollars at the country's Kapitan Andreevo checkpoint near the border with Trkiye, officials said on Monday.

The National Customs Agency and the Prosecutor's Office said in a joint statement that the seizure was made on Friday when customs officers inspected a truck which was traveling from Belgium via Bulgaria to Trkiye.

Four bags containing a total of 43 packages of cocaine were found in the truck, the statement said.

An investigation is still underway.
